Excellent!!
Don’t listen to the putzes who tell you Lita can’t rock because she’s female and sexy as hell. It’s sexist bullsh*t. She IS a lady who is sexy as hell BUT she rocks too and this is a great CD with some killer cuts and a helluva lot of awesome blistering guitar. Lita f*cking rocks!!

Sounds better than in the 80s
This CD really showcases Lita’s talent. Too bad we didn’t hear more from her though. It’s nice to have the CD since my original was on vinyl.

Best female artist in Metal !
Lita Ford’s self titled Album came out after a few shabby releases and exploded onto the scene with grinding guitars,quality music and a sexy image. Who can forget the video for Kiss Me Deadly ?

This album is one of my all time faves ! I did alot of partying to this album !

Everybody knows the hits Kiss Me Deadly and Close My Eyes Forever with Ozzy but give the rest of the cd a chance…

Kiss this girl deadly!
OK, Mike Chapman is best known for producing Blondie and writing songs with Holly Knight for countless artists (Heart, Tina Turner, etc.) but who would have thought he was able to jump-start Lita Ford’s solo career into gear? After the forgettable Dancing On Edge and Out For Blood, Lita Ford switched labels from Polydor to BMG, got Sharon Osbourne as her manager, and some songwriting help from her producer as well as Nikki Sixx and Lemmy Kilimeister. Result: an album with a harder-edged sound and which yielded her two best charting singles.

“Back To The Cave” demonstrates Lita’s fiery guitar-playing abilities and a sound that outdoes Slippery When Wet-era Bon Jovi, but then, she ups the mileage on the next song. “Can’t Catch Me” with its express train guitar and organ keyboards is by far the best song here. Small wonder, as Motorhead’s Lemmy wrote this. The sound more than makes Lita’s point that she’s no Sandra Dee, nobody to pushed around, and someone who appreciates a little taste.

The Chapman-penned “Blueberry” is a guitar rocker with Ron Nevison-like keyboard fills, but nothing that dilutes the metal in this song. With a refrain like “I’ll be blue for you” and a line, “I take him hard, make it hard against the wall,” well, figure it out.

Then comes the single that got Lita into the Top 40 for the first time. With metal guitar riffs and keyboards, but with pop sensibilities without diluting its power, “Kiss Me Deadly” seemed to be one exception to non-thrash groups that weren’t churning out pop metal but still making it in the charts–I count Def Leppard, Cinderella and Motley Crue as other heavier than average charting groups, for example.

Which reminds me; “Falling In And Out Of Love” was co-written by Nikki Sixx of the Crue, where the protagonist does the title in her daydreams and fantasies after a real love yielded a cold winter.

“Fatal Passion” ends the heavy metal streak on this album, as things become more tempered soundwise and thematically for the next three songs, starting with the haunting keyboards and drums of “Under The Gun,” soon to be accompanied by guitar.

Seeking some solace after the disillusionment of “Broken Dreams” and longing for a naive idealistic outlook of yesterday is underscored by a heavy guitar and keyboards.

The final song, “Close My Eyes Forever,” a sobering and melancholy song of betrayal and regret that drove one to death was both sung and written by Lita and Ozzy, with terminal overtones: “And when we sleep, would you shelter me/in your warm and darkened grave.” A tragic operatic aura of a final sleep is created by the synths in the last chorus repeat. Given what Ozzy went through with the “Suicide Solution” trials, I was surprised no-one went after him and Lita for this song.

In the early 80’s, it was impossible for Lita Ford to get into the mainstream. In 1988, with groups like Bon Jovi, Europe, Poison, and Motley Crue having paved the way for hard rock/metal for mass acceptance, it was possible for Lita, and with results that outdid most male metal bands. Third time’s the charm, with some deadly kissing metal.

DE-LITA-FUL
Having produced a couple of below par releases, Lita had a great attitude that just needed to be captured and assisted by a bit of spit and polish. This is the CD that did it all for her. Neither a stellar vocalist or guitarist a fantastic set of rock and rock pop numbers showcased that Lita was capable of being up there with the best of them both male and female. “Back To The Cave” opens it up with a broody sexiness that in no way needs to apologise for being about a woman who knows exactly what she wants. “Can’t Catch Me” is her speed fest (realtively speaking) with an authorship by Motorhead’s Lemmy. A great rock tune. “Blueberry” is my personal favourite with its sultry suggestiveness. In fact there is little sugestion and a lot of pointedness. A great song. “Kiss Me Deadly” is a cover of whom I can’t recall but gave her the much needed hit single. Its okay if not as strong in my opinion as other originals on offer. “Falling In and Out Of Love” is a Nikki Sixx number which is a very classy track suggestive of the earlier Crue years in such songs as “Hollywood” and a bit of a borrow from “Too Young to Fall In Love”. Other highlights are the synthed washed “Under The Gun” about rebels and the lonely lives they lead. Probably more about leather chaps on the Sunset Strip than on a mule in the desert. Closer of “Close My Eyes For Ever” is arguably the best song here although there are many. Its a grandeous duet with Ozzy. Nobody writes them like that anymore with bitter sweet longing. So as a summary there is plenty to love here and a recommendation to add this to your collection is all that remains for me to do. Recommended.

Melodic female-fronted hard rock
Vixen was a short-lived band from the late 1980s, with all female members, that played melodic hard rock. In their mellower moments, they could sound somewhat like Journey. In their harder moments, they could be quite metallic, on a par with Lita Ford. This CD is a remastered edition of their second album, and the sound engineering is extremely good. The songwriting is outstanding, and much more consistent than on their first CD. For the most part, these songs are appealing hard rock or glam metal tracks, with catchy hooks, tasteful guitar leads, and pleasant vocal harmonies. There is no weak material on this CD.

Glamrock Beauties
I love Vixen! Back in the days of men rockin’ out dressing a little like women here we have the best female rock band ever! They had the hair… they had the moves… they had the talent! They could play with the big boys and keep up! They said in an interview once that as they were opening for the guys they’d sometimes come out to see if they were faking, but they weren’t & they guys were shocked! They are amaaaaaaaaaaaaaazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vixen Rev it up
I love this CD and even though the addresses got mixed up the store called me personally to find out why I had to change the address. Then they discovered a small flaw in the paper part of the cd and gave me two other cds to make up for it. I would buy from this company again and again!! Great CD and great people

I had a hunch I’d like Vixen. I was right, and then some.
I always liked hard rock (more hard rock than true metal). I always liked female vocalists. I always have been supportive of female musicians and athletes. So it shouldn’t surprise anyone that I like Vixen. But I like Vixen better than the Go Gos, and they are close to edging out the Bangles (my second favorite secular band) and Rachel Rachel (which could be called a Christian Vixen, except they aren’t as good at rockin’ as Vixen is).

I actually learned about Vixen through MySpace. While I was not surprised there was some turn over, I was when I discovered only one of the original band members was still there (Jan K.) But that did not diminish how much I enjoyed the project.

My favorite tracks (and yes, I liked them all) were “Edge Of A Broken Heart”, “I Want You To Rock Me”, “American Dream”, “One Night Alone”, “Love Made Me”, “Waiting”, and “Cruisin’”. 7 out of 11 songs on my favorite tracks list? That says it all, doesn’t it?!

One of the best 80s rock albums!
For me this Cd is one of the best 80s rock albums, you have the three excellent singles “Edge of a Broken Heart”, “Cryín” and “Love Made Me”, but there are other great songs like “Desperate” and two of my preferred Vixen songs “American Dream” and “I Want you To Rock Me”, in fact all the songs are great.

All the Band plays really good, Vixen have a excellent powerful glam rock music style. I remember that I love this band since the first time I listened, and I was very happy when in 2004 they edited again the first two albums. For me the original line up of Vixen first two album is the best Girl Rock band ever!

In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida

Why Buy A In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida?
Iron Butterflys 1968 album veritably defined the burgeoning genre of hard-rock, primarily by way of its utterly over-the-top title cut. Reportedly composed by keyboardist/lead singer Doug Ingle in such a stoned-out, numb-tongued condition that he couldnt properly pronounce its intended title–In the Garden of Eden–the track seemed almost a parody of every excessive inclination of psychedelia. Melodramatic vocals, repetitive riffing, aimless solos–you name it, this 17-minute behemoth had it. Aided by FM DJs who loved to program it in its entirety so they could take legitimate breaks, it became an unavoidable hit–and an anthem of its era. –Billy Altman

Psychedelia Acid Rock
I’m from Chicago and back in 1967 me and two other guys started our first band in Schurz High School. We were in Murphy’s kitchen trying to come up with a name for our band. He had a metal mobile hanging from the kitchen lite with butterflies and I said how about Iron Butterfly. So this was our name for a few months until we found out there was a band in California by that name; and after I had already wrote the name into my desk at school in music class. I seen Iron Butterfly twice; first time opening for The Jefferson Airplane at the Kinetic Playground. I was the drummer in the band and that solo at the time was unbelieveable. No one before thought of putting micophones on the drums; giving it that great sound. We also played In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida and I had the drum solo down pat; but no the same sound quality. The drums that start the song Are You Happy are powerfull.

Oldie but a goodie
I’m older so had this album in my collection when it was released as a 33 1/3 rpm - every now and then I hear snippets of it in movies - my record collection is long gone so I was happy to be able to purchase this in a CD. To me this is a classic album from the 1960s. I LOVE the In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida tune.

No age to good music!!
I got this for my husband for X-Mas, because his origional had gotten scratched. Our family can’t live without this CD, it gets played alot even by our teenage son!!

The band that proclaimed itself The Greatest Rock & Roll Band in the World has long since represented rocks most overarching confluence of art and commerce–with a distinct emphasis on the latter in recent decades–a notion this 40-track, five-decade-spanning anthology cant completely escape. While this is the first anthology to gather hits from the bands entire career, its the early tunes that highlight one of the Stones central ironies: virtually their entire bad boy reputation was built working for The Man. That original 60s musical arc bounded from 50s rock and R&B revivalism (Not Fade Away, The Last Time) to anti-Mop Top aggression (Satisfaction, Get Off My Cloud, 19th Nervous Breakdown) to proto-goth cynicism (Paint It Black, Have You Seen Your Mother Baby) and psychedelic minstrelsy (Shes a Rainbow, Ruby Tuesday) to the epitome of blues-based cock rock (Street Fighting Man, Jumpin Jack Flash) in quick succession. Wresting control of their own destinies–and future copyrights–at the end of the 60s, theyd spend the next 30 years largely recycling their earlier incarnation ad infinitum–their music sprinkled with occasionally successful forays into contemporary club and disco fodder (Some Girls, Shattered)–and resting on their well-paid laurels. Unfortunately, the listless quartet of new tracks that flesh out this collection seems little more than another business deal to hype their 2002-03 world tour, with Dont Stop arguably the weakest in a long string of post-80s Stones McSingles. If Jagger seems typically detached here, Keith Richards injects some welcome, craggy warmth into the closing barroom lament, Losing My Touch. But its also a performance that suggests his legendary band has become little more to him than The Greatest Day Job in the World. –Jerry McCulley

THE BEST COMPILATION OF THE ROLLING STONES SO FAR
This is an awesome greatest hits album , it features on disc 1 there hits from 1964-1971 and on disc 2 there hits from 1973-2002. The sound is great and so is the package. Highly recommended.

FAVORITE STONES CD FOR TRAVEL!
Forty Licks just has so many of my favorite Stones songs that the two cd’s are among my must-haves for tunes for a road trip!

For my Baby Boomer Hippie!
My husband’s first CD of 40 Licks bit the dust. He literally wore it out. Needless to say, he was lost without it and didn’t think I’d ever find a replacement for it. I knew Amazon.Com wouldn’t fail me! Thanks for making my old air-guitar playing husband happy!
