A sitcom behemoth of the last 10 years, Friends shot out of the gate in 1994 with snappy writing and an attractive cast. The exploits of sensitive paleontologist Ross Geller (David Schwimmer), his obsessive-compulsive sister Monica Geller (Courteney Cox); Monicas roommate Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), a spoiled rich girl trying to live on her own; earthy aromatherapist/masseuse Phoebe Buffay (Lisa Kudrow); and Monicas neighbors across the hall– sarcastic Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry) and his dim-bulb roommate Joey Tribbiani (Matt LeBlanc) became a nationwide obsession, a pop-culture icon (remember The Rachel haircut?) and a top Nielsen hit for its entire run.

The first two seasons were mostly centered on the on-off saga of Ross and Rachel, and while their relationship remained a strong presence through romantic rivals and even a baby, View clips and vote for your favorite Friends moment. the other characters eventually moved from sideshow players into a shared comedic lead. But Friends was not without its heart. Most of the cast had dysfunctional relationships with their parents and went through loss, divorce, marriage, parenthood, and love triangles. The emotional pregnancies of Rachel (by Ross) and Phoebe (surrogate to her half-brothers triplets) won the actresses Emmy Awards, and Joeys tender feelings for Rachel in Season 8 won LeBlanc, the most improved actor in the series, a nomination.

Most sitcoms run out of ideas by the fifth season, but Friends gave itself a refreshing jolt the minute Monica and Chandler wound up in bed together. Their budding romance was not only the one of the funniest arcs of the series, but one of the most sentimental, as they planned a wedding, struggled to have a child and eventually turned to adoption. By seasons seven and on, the characters had each grown up from young singletons to thirtysomethings finding permanence in their careers and love lives but never losing the laughs.

Friends featured a parade of celebrity guests, but unlike Will & Grace, it actually utilized most of the stars as more than cameos: The sextets parents were all brilliantly cast, particularly Kathleen Turner as Chandlers drag-queen father and Teri Garr as Phoebes dizzy mom. Everyone from George Clooney to Sean Penn to Julia Roberts to Bruce Willis has appeared on the sitcom, and Tom Selleck certainly enjoyed a career resuscitation after his recurring role as Monicas older man.

But no star power ever penetrated the bond between the six stars, and their unmatchable chemistry worked for 10 seasons. Even if the show is on reruns daily, this boxed set of Friends remains watchable over and over again–even if that theme song grates on your nerves.

A few buyers complained about the disks skipping or freezing. The others don’t mention whether they played all the disk without experiencing any problems. Any comment? Disk problems could actually be caused by DVD player.

Why Buy A South Park - The Complete Fourth Season?
In the episode Chef Goes Nanners, Cartman is left standing alone in the snow after Wendy blithely proclaims her improbable attraction for him to has suddenly vanished. Cartman heaves a heavy sigh, and exits Chaplinesque stage right. But any concerns that South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone had gone soft, or that Cartman would undergo a more sympathetic, Louie De Palma-like makeover are abated in nearly every other episode of South Parks pivotal fourth season. From the downright immature trashing of Phil Collins (whose Youll Be in My Heart from Tarzan had emerged victorious Oscar night over Parker and Stones Blame Canada) to an episode in which Cartman becomes the unwitting poster child for NAMBLA, South Park gave its viewers much shock value for its basic cable dollar. This was the season that introduced the shows most unlikely breakout star, the wheelchair-bound Timmy, who, despite being only able to say his own name (or perhaps because of it), carried the pathos in his own holiday special, Helen Keller! The Musical. This was the season in which Parker and Stone somehow were able to comment with Daily Show immediacy on the Elian Gonzales incident (Quintuplets 2000) and the presidential election debacle (Trapper Keeper) within days of the actual events. This was the season in which other statement shows skewered the South Carolina confederate flag controversy (Chef Goes Nanners) and hate-crime legislation (Cartmans Silly Hate Crime 2000). This was also the season in which the South Park kids graduated to the fourth grade, we got a harrowing look inside Cartmans brain (Helen Keller!), and estranged lovers Saddam Hussein and Satan were reunited (in a two-parter, no less!).

Episodes not appreciated in their time can now be seen with fresh eyes. Pip, hosted by Malcolm McDowell, and featuring none of the South Park regulars, is a faithful abridgement of Charles Dickenss Great Expectations, monkey robots notwithstanding. As in the season 3 set, Parker and Stone provide brief, fun-size commentary that address their censorship skirmishes with Comedy Central and illuminate the inspiration and backstory for each episode. To quote the pro-commercialism holiday episode, A Very Krappy Christmas, If we all buy presents, everyone benefits. For South Park fans, this boxed set is an excellent start. –Donald Liebenson

south park gets better and better as it progresses. i lauged hareder for this season than i did for the last!

Finally…adult comedy
Admit it, when you first saw South Park you fell on the floor laughing (if you didn’t you had no pulse). Trey Parker and Matt Stone are geniuses. Putting 4 lovable characters (even Cartman) in a small town with adult situations is too funny. Ahh to be young again.

WARNING: even though this is a cartoon, THIS IS NOT FOR CHILDREN.

Angel Dvd’s are Great!

This DVD set is awesome. It has everything an Angel fan could ask for. It has special features, interviews with the cast, deleted scened,and Episodes themselves have clarity and the picture quality is fantastic. A must for any Angel fan!

Fun show.
Not that big a fan of Buffy but we gave Angel a try and have enjoyed each season. Disc are well packed and the set fits on the DVD shelf. DVD Video quality up-converts nicely. Good set of bonus extras on each disc.

I heart Angel
Joss Whedon created a character that will forever be one of my favorite shows ever. It’s got wit, suspense, drama, fear and laughter. Who could ask for more. I’ve just started picking up the Buffy the Vampire seasons so I can feel I’ve completed the entire series.

Nearly 20 years after riding his last Crusade, Harrison Ford makes a welcome return as archaeologist/relic hunter Indiana Jones in Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, an action-packed fourth installment thats, in a nutshell, less memorable than the first three but great nostalgia for fans of the series. Producer George Lucas and screenwriter David Koepp (War of the Worlds) set the film during the cold war, as the Soviets–replacing Nazis as Indys villains of choice and led by a sword-wielding Cate Blanchett with black bob and sunglasses–are in pursuit of a crystal skull, which has mystical powers related to a city of gold. After escaping from them in a spectacular opening action sequence, Indy is coerced to head to Peru at the behest of a young greaser (Shia LaBeouf) whose friend–and Indys colleague–Professor Oxley (John Hurt) has been captured for his knowledge of the skulls whereabouts. Whatever secrets the skull holds are tertiary; its reveal is the weakest part of the movie, as the CGI effects that inevitably accompany it feel jarring next to the boulder-rolling world of Indy audiences knew and loved. Theres plenty of comedy, delightful stunts–ants play a deadly role here–and the return of Raiders love interest Karen Allen as Marion Ravenwood, once shrill but now softened, giving her ex-love bemused glances and eye-rolls as he huffs his way to save the day. Which brings us to Ford: bullwhip still in hand, hes a little creakier, a lot grayer, but still twice the action hero of anyone in film today. With all the anticipation and hype leading up to the films release, perhaps no reunion is sweeter than that of Ford with the role that fits him as snugly as that fedora hat. –Ellen A. Kim

By its fourth season, The Simpsons had come far enough where Lisa could make a self-referential joke about Dustin Hoffman and Michael Jacksons pseudonymous guest voice appearances in seasons 2 and 3, respectively. In this season, no less than Elizabeth Taylor (in two episodes), Bette Midler, and even the reclusive Johnny Carson blessed The Simpsons with their iconic presences. Awhile back, Entertainment Weekly ranked The Simpsons Top 25 best episodes ever. Five gems from season 4 cracked the top 12, including the (debatable) choice for No. 1, Last Exit to Springfield. Other episodes that loom large in the Simpsons legend are Mr. Plow (you know the jingle: Call Mr. Plow / Thats my name / That name again is Mr. Plow), Marge vs. the Monorail, featuring a Music Man-style extravaganza, and A Streetcar Named Marge, the episode that outraged New Orleans residents, who heard their fair metropolis referred to as a city that the damned call home.

The Simpsons smartly subverts traditional family sitcom convention, but anyone who thinks the show doesnt have a heart is advised to watch I Love Lisa and New Kid on the Block, two fourth-season gems that absolutely nail the agony and ecstasy of unrequited crushes (You wont be needing this, a heartbroken Bart fantasizes his babysitter saying while dropkicking his heart into a wastebasket in New Kid). While the Simpsons celebrated ensemble gets all the glory, we must pause now to praise the peerless writing staff, among them, George Meyer, Al Jean, Jon Vitti, John Swartzwelder, David Silverman, and Conan OBrien. One can only marvel in astonishment at the alchemy that went into creating, week after week, such essential episodes as Kamp Krusty, Streetcar, the profane and profound Homer the Heretic, and Lisa the Beauty Queen (And thats just disc 1!). The animators, too, rose to the occasion, particularly in Itchy & Scratchy: The Movie, with its dead-on, ultra-violent sinking of the seminal Disney cartoon, Steamboat Willie. And another benchmark in The Simpsons rise to the TV pantheon: Its very first clip show. What Homer says about donuts in Monorail holds true as well for The Simpsons itself: Is there anything this show cant do? –Donald Liebenson

This contains some of the best episodes from this great show. It really is The Simpsons at its best - strongly recommended.

The Simpsons - The Complete Fourth Season
My children are all HUGE Simpsons fans. This season was one I could not find in any stores near me. I was so glad to find it online. Each episode will be memorized by repeated viewings!

I will not defame New Orleans.
I tend to agree with a lot of people that this season is definitely one of the best. I won’t say the best because there were episodes from season 3 that I liked better, but I’m proud to say that I own the first four seasons and, when it finally does arrive, season 5 as well. Season 4 features some of the funniest episodes I’ve seen in recent years. While I don’t believe like many people that the new Simpsons sucks, I do agree that it’s lost some of its steam. There are still episodes that have me laughing almost as much as the older ones do. Camp Krusty, which spawned the horrible Game Boy game Bart Simpson: Escape from Camp Deadly, is one worth watching over and over. Other favorites of mine are A Streetcar Named Marge, The Itchy and Scratchy Movie, Homer’s Tripple Bypass, Mr. Plow and, my absolute favorite, Duffless. I can vividly remember sitting in my bedroom in our house in San Clemente, California on the night this episode first aired, trying not to laugh too much as I made a half-hearted attempt to do my homework. Not that I succeeded. Another favorite, aside from the Treehouse of Horror, is Homer the Heretic, which I also remember watching the night it first aired. None of the episodes in this season had me laughing quite as much as, say, Homer at the Bat, Radio Bart or Bart the Lover, but they’re still well worth watching over and over again.About my only complaint with this season, and that of a few others I understand, is that the menu setup isn’t very user friendly. That and the little animation that plays before your selection is even loaded can get annoying. Still, it’s well worth buying this set, especially if you’re a loyal fan like myself.

I absolutely love this season, I bought season 1-4 because in my opinion those are the only ones worth having. It is my belief that after season 5 the series went down.
